Chapter 2: Edupreneur

For the third time, I'd want to greet you a pleasant day and say hello! I'm April Dominque, and I'm back on your screen. This third blog explains what an edupreneur is and how to become one.

Again, before I get to the main point of this blog, I'd like to explain why I chose this career as a second option. When I was in senior high school, I studied Accountancy, Business, and Management because I wanted to work in a bank or run my own business, but my feet did not lead me there; instead, I followed the path of education. While researching what professional opportunities are open to me after completing my degree, I discovered that you can contribute knowledge, market expertise, and skills with public or private schools, universities, and profit and non-profit organizations even if you choose college education. Learning about this profession will also teach me about the processes I will go through to start and run my own business.

“Hire character. Train skill.” -Peter Schultz

What exactly does the name "edupreneur" mean? Many individuals struggle to understand the concept of education entrepreneurship, which is why the majority of them have never heard of edupreneurship. This is essentially a combination between entrepreneurship and education. Edupreneurs are those who have a background in education and come from the teaching sector and want to bring something different to their field by bringing it to the next level of professionalism and industry. According to my research, India provides a diverse range of opportunities for entrepreneurs going into education and vice versa. That is why, throughout their country, many people of all ages realize this as their true calling.

The part two on this blog is how to become an edupreneur. There are a few things that everyone who wants to get into edupreneurship must have if they want to be successful and establish a career for themselves and their cause. Paying close attention to your students' needs and desires, fairly rewarding them, as well as having a strong drive to succeed, an entrepreneurial attitude, and a sustainable business model are some of the most essential basic aspects of edupreneurship. Only in this manner will you be able to convey your message and accomplish anything significant. Being an edupreneur is good, especially if it makes you feel like you're finally doing the right thing with your life, but it's all for nothing if you don't have someone with whom to share your knowledge. This is not only a strategy to generate new learning capacities for future generations, but it is also a way to improve the concepts of education and entrepreneurship. Change is a slow process, so start small and work your way up to inspiring a larger group of individuals.

Chapter 1: MATHenik Teacher

Hi, it's me again, April Dominique! I assume you want to know more about pursuing a teaching major in mathematics. This second blog of mine is about appreciating and teaching you about the importance of mathematics, as well as the responsibilities and goals of a math teacher.  I hope that everyone who reads this blog realizes that mathematics is more than simply a subject; it is a tool that we apply in our daily life.

"A problem is only a problem if you refuse to look for a solution. If you don't take action to fix it then it will remain a problem" - Catherine Pulsifer

One of the first things you learn in life is mathematics. From a very young age, you will begin to learn how to use and play with building blocks, how to count, and then proceed to sketching things and figures. Teachers have worked throughout the years to make math a meaningful and exciting subject by presenting students with examples that show its relevance in everyday life. However, the use of advanced technology now allows students to experience the usefulness of math in everyday life.

Mathematics appears to be invisible in the world around us at times. However, math is all around us—in the business, in our families, and in everyday life. It would be difficult to go about your daily life without using math. Math is the key that will allow you to enter the room.   The key to opportunity these days are the years of little starts until you desire to be able to accomplish anything as difficult as mathematics. We live in a world where only the strongest survive. Our achievements are the result of our labor. Whether you take the short way or the detour in life, your ability and knowledge of algebra will determine.

What comes to mind when you hear the word "mathenik"? Math, in my opinion, will teach you to think abstractly, logically, and critically in order to solve real-life situations. Mathenik seems like math is really "matinik," which means thorn in English, but in reality, it becomes thorny or difficult because of the teacher. There are some teachers who are so incompetent at teaching mathematics that they make the subject more complicated and uninteresting to learn and recognize. But what are the goals of a math teacher? Some of the most significant goals of a mathematics teacher are listed below.

  • enjoy mathematics and develop patience and persistence when solving problems
  • build mathematical curiosity and problem-solving skills through inductive and deductive reasoning
  •  gain confidence in utilizing mathematics to analyze and solve problems in both school and real-world situations
  • appreciate mathematics' importance and strength
  • develop abstract, logical, and critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to critically reflect on their own and others' work

After reading the goals listed above, the real question is: how can you make mathematics a simple and essential subject in your students' daily lives? And, as a future mathematics teacher, what are your teaching strategies that you believe will help your students learn effectively and comprehensively?

And, as a reader of this blog, what are your thoughts and suggestions for future mathematics teachers to make the subject more interesting and entertaining? Kindly leave a comment, and I will appreciate your effort to express your ideas and suggestions. Thank you very much!

A Step to a New Chapter

Hola! This is April Dominique G. Fazon, a Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics student at Philippine Christian University Dasmarinas. This is the day I present and welcome you to my first blog. As you browse through my profile and visit my other blog posts, you will get to know me better and may become interested in the professional path I am pursuing, and consider what job options you have after obtaining your education degree.

Before I get into the heart of this blog, I'd like to express why I chose this course and Mathematics as my major. Why did I become interested in and fall in love with this subject?  Because of my high school math teacher. She was the first educator who instilled in us the importance of mathematics. She simplifies the subject for us to fully comprehend. That is why, while deciding what course to do in college, education was one of my options until I decided to pursue this. And why did I choose to become a teacher, someday? Because teachers are our nation builders—the information and skills that teachers help to instill in our youth are the foundation of every career in our nation.I want to be the professional not just to teach and impart knowledge in the children, but also to educate them in molding themselves into a better or best version of themselves in order for them to be successful in the future they desire.

The first job option I may pursue after graduation is that of a mathematics teacher, as this is why I majored in mathematics education. Math is all around us, but we don't recognize it. Why? Because if we ask students why they dislike math, we will nearly always get the same answer: they often find the subject uninteresting and difficult to understand, making it difficult for them to appreciate the value of mathematics.

My second job option is education entrepreneur. I also desired to run my own business someday, and while doing so, I wanted to share my expertise and experiences with aspiring entrepreneurs. To be an excellent entrepreneur educator, you must be knowledgeable in business, marketing, and financial management.
