A Step to a New Chapter

Hola! This is April Dominique G. Fazon, a Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics student at Philippine Christian University Dasmarinas. This is the day I present and welcome you to my first blog. As you browse through my profile and visit my other blog posts, you will get to know me better and may become interested in the professional path I am pursuing, and consider what job options you have after obtaining your education degree.

Before I get into the heart of this blog, I'd like to express why I chose this course and Mathematics as my major. Why did I become interested in and fall in love with this subject?  Because of my high school math teacher. She was the first educator who instilled in us the importance of mathematics. She simplifies the subject for us to fully comprehend. That is why, while deciding what course to do in college, education was one of my options until I decided to pursue this. And why did I choose to become a teacher, someday? Because teachers are our nation builders—the information and skills that teachers help to instill in our youth are the foundation of every career in our nation.I want to be the professional not just to teach and impart knowledge in the children, but also to educate them in molding themselves into a better or best version of themselves in order for them to be successful in the future they desire.

The first job option I may pursue after graduation is that of a mathematics teacher, as this is why I majored in mathematics education. Math is all around us, but we don't recognize it. Why? Because if we ask students why they dislike math, we will nearly always get the same answer: they often find the subject uninteresting and difficult to understand, making it difficult for them to appreciate the value of mathematics.

My second job option is education entrepreneur. I also desired to run my own business someday, and while doing so, I wanted to share my expertise and experiences with aspiring entrepreneurs. To be an excellent entrepreneur educator, you must be knowledgeable in business, marketing, and financial management.

  4. After reading your blog, I realized that pursuing your dream as a future teacher in math is very inspiring. Few people want to take this course because they are afraid to take math. After all, it is well known as one of the most complex subjects.

Your insight on how to help students quickly learn math is very impressive. The single most effective strategy you could have used to teach mathematics is the Concrete Representational Abstract (CRA) approach. During the concrete step, students use physical materials (real-life objects or models) to explore a concept.

April, thank you for sharing your story and inspiring me to strive to become a future teacher. The future looking forward to your new blog in the future <3

  8. Hi April! I have read your blog and if I was your Math high school teacher, I’ll be grateful that you were one of the students I handled. Tbh, it’s good to know that there are students, like you, who love Mathematics, I mean some of the students if not all don’t like Mathematics because they find it hard to understand, and yes, just like what you said some of them think of it as an “uninteresting” subject. Yet, here you are, expressing the reasons why you love it. I hope you will forever be grateful for the path you’ve chosen. Enjoy your course, April, and always love learning. Good luck on your journey!
